IAS AWARDED CMA APPROVED SUPPLIER STATUS

IAS is delighted to have been awarded the prestigious Complimentary Medical Association (CMA) Approved Supplier Status.

In an effort to continue to highlight and reward excellence within the complimentary medical profession, the CMA awards organisations that epitomize the extremely high level of ethics, service and performance customers have come to expect from the health industry.

“We are in the process of identifying a number of companies to whom we are considering awarding the status of Complimentary Medical Association Approved Supplier,” said Jayney Goddard, President of the Complimentary Medical Association. “We are delighted to award IAS this status as they embody the exceptionally high standards that we believe should run throughout the complimentary medical profession.”

Phil Micans, Vice President of IAS commented, “We are obviously delighted with this recognition. For any company that is considered outstanding enough to be considered for recommendation by the CMA carries a great deal of weight. The CMA has a tremendously high level of respect and kudos both in the CAM industry, the conventional medical profession and also among the general public. We are proud to be associated with them.”

FISH OILS SHOWN TO BOOST PRE-SCHOOL LEARNING SKILLS

The learning ability of pre-school children improves significantly when they take a daily dose of fish oils, according to the first results of a new study being carried out in England.

The early-intervention trial is an extension of the Sure Start project taking place in County Durham, England and follows on from the recent ground breaking Durham Schools Trial.

In the current trial 60 children aged between 20 and 36 months have been given a daily fish oil supplement. Although the year-long trial is still at the early stages, initial findings have show positive results for the children’s concentration and behavior.

“The performance of almost 60% of the children has improved dramatically,” said Dr. Madeleine Portwood, educational psychologist for Durham Local Education Authority. “We saw children whose learning skills went from six months below their chronological age to age equivalent in just three months.

“Some two year-olds went from having a vocabulary of 25 single words to being able to use whole sentences, while others were able to sit down and concentrate for the first time in their lives.”

Omega 3 Fish Oils are generously rich in EPA’s and DHA’s that help maintain many vital functions within the body. As part of a healthy diet and lifestyle an adequate intake of EPA and DHA may help maintain supple and flexible joints, and are essential for brain development. Our bodies are not very efficient at making these fatty acids and Western diets generally do not frequently feature oily fish such as mackerel and herring that are naturally rich in Omega 3.

SUNSHINE MAY PROVIDE PROSTATE PROTECTION

Sun-exposed white men are less likely to get prostate cancer than their less tanned brethren, a new study shows.

That’s no reason for men to recklessly sunbathe. The greater a person’s lifetime sun exposure, the greater a person’s risk of skin cancer. But the finding does indicate that vitamin D – which humans can get from sun exposure – protects against prostate cancer.

Also protective are genes that let some people’s bodies use vitamin D more efficiently, find Esther M. John, Ph.D., of the Northern California Cancer Center; Gary G. Schwartz, Ph.D., of Wake Forest University, and colleagues.

“It’s a pretty impressive finding,” says Schwartz. “Men with high solar exposure had their risk of prostate cancer cut in half. This leaves us with even greater confidence that vitamin D deficiency really does increase a man’s risk of prostate cancer.”
